Artist's statement

The Oxford dictionary defines beauty as “a combination of qualities, such as shape, color or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.”  I have always been on the lookout for beauty, and my art is a visual diary of beauty that I have seen or imagined, using photography, painting and sculpture to remember, create and to share.

The process of sculpting is like alchemy. Something as elemental and ordinary as clay can transform into the image of the most complex  organism- a human being, capable of evoking silently a wide range of feelings and emotions.

Through photography I strive to capture the essence of moments, objects and landscapes, and to create a visual language that conveys emotions and ideas through composition and light. I am drawn to natural light and the interplay of shadows and highlights, and I use color and black and white photography to create different moods and atmospheres.

My paintings, on the other hand, are often more abstract and expressive. I use bold colors, gestural brushstrokes, and a variety of textures to create dynamic compositions that convey a sense of movement and energy. My paintings are  intuitive, inspired by a range of influences, including nature, music, and the concept of the Rorschach Test as a portal to subconscious emotions or memories.

Making art is often a solitary process, but for me that process is completed in the act of sharing, I hope to engage viewers on a visceral and emotional level, inviting them to see the world through my eyes and to connect with the beauty and complexity of the world around us. As with beauty, the eye of the beholder is all-important.

So please take a look.
